Ah! Child-induced sleep deprivation. I have so many funny stories from those days, if only I could remember them. :)

Not long after my daughter Ava’s two month birthday, our next door neighbors gave us a brand new Elmo. Ava loved his bright red fur and googlie eyes, thus Elmo had to come with us everywhere.

One day, feeling ambitious despite my lack of sleep, I decided to take Ava to the grocery store. As we drove by my neighbor’s house, he was in the yard and gave us an odd look. Being an accustomed recipient of odd looks, whether due to unwashed hair or vomit on my shoulder, I thought nothing of it. When we got to the store I got out of my car and lo and behold, there was Elmo on the roof of our Subaru. I swear his arms were outstretched ala SuperElmo, so looked like he was holding on for dear life.

Since the Elmo incident, in my sleeplessness I have left many things on my roof, including most recently my wallet. Unfortunately my wallet did not display the tenacity and grip that Elmo did. Elmo is, however, still with us and is much beloved.
